Academic excellence: thesis prizes winners 2024

Seven PhD graduates from HEC Lausanne (UNIL) were awarded prizes during the Annual Doctoral Event on Thursday November 21st, 2024. The Dean’s Office warmly congratulates the researchers concerned.

The prizes 2024 were awarded to seven doctors of Faculty of Business and Economics (University of Lausanne) during the Annual Doctoral Event. This event - organised by the Doctoral School of HEC Lausanne in partnership with the PhDnet doctoral association - was introduced by a few words from Vice-Dean, Prof. Valérie Chavez-Demoulin, followed by a speech by two recent PhD graduates, Dr. Lisa Faessler (PhD in Management) and Dr. Dina Finger (PhD in Actuarial Science).
 

The various prizes reward their theses for their scientific contribution and the innovative nature of their areas of research.

  • Aleksandra Friedl, PhD in Economics, Prix de la Fondation Nicolas et Hélène Porphyrogenis, for the thesis “Three Essays on Macroeconomics of Climate Change”
  • Zhimin Chen, PhD in Finance, Prix de la Banque Cantonale Vaudoise, for the thesis “Three Essays in Finance”
  • Cyril Bachelard, PhD in Business Analytics, Prix Charles Jean Burnens, for the thesis “Bears, Bulls and Monkeys”
  • Lisa Faessler, PhD in Management, Prix de Faculté, for the thesis “Cultural Evolution and Social Learning: an Evolutionary Approach to Group and Individual Decision-Making Dynamics”
  • Marius Kuster, PhD in Economics, subject area History of Economic Thought and Philosophy, Prix de Faculté, for the thesis “The Great Variety of the Living Economy: German Economic Thought and Biological Analogy (1875-1936)”
  • Andrey Ugarte, PhD in Actuarial Science, Prix de Faculté, for the thesis “Essays on Population Aging and New Technologies in the Workplace: Current Risks, Consequences, and Perceptions”
  • Noé Zufferey, PhD in Information Systems, Prix de Faculté, for the thesis “Wearable Activity Trackers and Privacy: Assessment of the Risks, Threats, and Countermeasures”
