Wage indexation and one-off “cost of living” bonus: how and for whom?
As stated in its press release of 8 December 2022, the Vaud State Council has granted a partial indexation of salaries for the entire public and parapublic sector at 1.4%.
In addition, a one-off, exceptional "cost of living" bonus, equating to 0.8% of their salary, is being granted to State of Vaud staff in grades 1 to 10.
What does this mean for UNIL staff in concrete terms and how will it be applied?
Application of indexation in line with the principles of equal pay.
Regardless of the financing arrangements, the cost of living compensation for UNIL employees is as follows:
Annual increases are also guaranteed: see the salary scale and tables.
For doctoral students and junior and senior SNSF researchers, a special request has been submitted to the SNSF for indexation of the reference salary scales. A decision is expected by the end of January. According to the decision, the cost-of-living adjustment will be applied retroactively with effect from 1 January 2023 for all doctoral students concerned, whether they are financed by the SNSF or another third-party source, as well as for junior and senior SNSF researchers.
The Human Resources Department is happy to provide further information.
*Excluding part-time lecturers, visiting professors on an indemnity, privat-docent, apprentices and trainees, administrative and technical staff who fall outside the scale, external contributors, hourly salary scales or specific fixed-sum scales used by the UNIL-EPFL Sports Service.
For hourly paid administrative and technical staff, the one-off “cost of living” bonus will be paid with their February 2023 wages.
