Yves Pigneur, Professor Emeritus at HEC Lausanne (UNIL) and Alex Osterwalder, CEO of Strategyzer, who has a PhD from the school, were named among the top five leading thinkers in management on Monday 18 November 2019, by the renowned Thinkers50 ranking.
The award recognizes the work of the two inventors of the Business Model Canvas, a business model that has been a global success story for many years, as evidenced by their books "Business Model Generation" and "Value Proposition Design", which have been read by 1.5 million people in 36 different languages.
Yves Pigneur and Alex Osterwalder came in 4th place in the biennial Thinkers50 ranking, also known as the "Management Oscars" by leading business newspapers, such as the Financial Times. They were officially named on Monday 18 November at a ceremony in London, which brought together several hundred management experts, who came to find more about the 50 personalities who had received the award. They have been included in the ranking for the last three years and on this occasion were ranked three places higher than in 2017.
According to Stuart Crainer and Des Dearlove, the founders of Thinkers50, “The Business Model Canvas has been the most influential management tool of the past two decades. Period.” The stage is set. Now we just have to wait to find out whether we’ll see a new bestseller and the tools of the future in the coming months.
