The 2017 Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards is awarded to Ludovic Räss for the poster entitled: "M2Di: MATLAB 2-D Stokes solvers using the Finite Difference method. (Räss, L.; Duretz, T.; Podladchikov, Y. Y.; Schmalholz, S. M.)."
Ludovic Räss is a PhD student at the Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Lausanne, in Lausanne Switzerland under the supervision of Prof. Yuri Podladchikov. With coworkers, he developed a set of Matlab routines to efficiently solve linear and power law Stokes flow in 2-D.
The awarded poster reports time to solution of 22 seconds for linear viscous flow on 1000×1000 grid points using a modern personal computers. Application examples spanning from finely resolved crystal-melt dynamics, deformation of heterogenous power law viscous fluids to models of mantle flow in cylindrical coordinates are shown.
