On August 1, 2022, Aurélien EYQUEM joined the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Lausanne, as associate professor in macroeconomics.
Why do countries apply tariffs and why do they vary over time? What are the effects of macroeconomic policies such as changes in government spending, unemployment insurance or taxes? How should these policies be designed to maximize people’s welfare? Does the macroeconomic environment (crisis vs. normal times, war episodes, Covid-19 period) affect the answer given to these questions?
Prof. Eyquem’s research focuses on dynamic macroeconomics with an emphasis on policy questions. Two important additional focuses of his work are the open-economy dimension (how do trade and financial openness or the exchange rate regime affect policymaking) and the dynamics of unemployment and individual risks faced by agents (introducing an additional trade-off between economic efficiency and insurance against individual risks).
He hold’s a Master’s degree in Economics from Ecole Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay (formerly Cachan) and a PhD in Economics from Université Rennes 1. He previously held positions in Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon and Université Lumière Lyon 2.
From 2017 to 2022, he was a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France. He received the Fondation Banque de France and Région Bretagne prizes for young researchers. His work has been published in leading journals in economics such as AEJ: Macroeconomics, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Public Economics and International Economic Review.
