Le Prof. Goodale (Institut des sciences sociales) présentera son livre intitulé "Reinventing Human Rights" à la New York University Abu Dhabi le 2 juin 2022 (en ligne).
Join the Culture, Rights and Representation in/for the 21st Century Research Kitchen at NYUAD in conversation with legal anthropologist Mark Goodale on his most recent publication, Reinventing Human Rights (Stanford University Press, 2022).
Mark Goodale's proposition to reinvent human rights begins with a deep unpacking of human rights institutionalism and political theory in order to give priority to the "practice of human rights." Rather than a priori claims to universality, he calls for a working theory of human rights defined by "translocality," a conceptual and ethical grounding that invites people to form alliances beyond established boundaries of community, nation, race, or religious identity.
Mark Goodale is Professor of Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Lausanne. He is the author of A Revolution in Fragments (2019), Anthropology and Law (2017), and Surrendering to Utopia (2009), among other works. He is the recipient of the 2017 International Geneva Award and is the founding Series Editor of Stanford Studies in Human Rights.
The launch will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 12 - 1:15pm GST via Zoom.
