The Evomet ITN is a unique European network of leading research labs that have come together to understand the fundamentals of cancer metastasis, with the longterm goal of developing effective anti-metastatic therapies.
Its support will fund Rui Santalla Mendez's PhD research over the next four years focussing on the crosstalk between tumor-associated macrophages and blood vessels in brain metastasis. The modulation of these interactions may lead to the future development of novel cancer therapies. "The Evomet ITN brings me the unique opportunity to develop a project dedicated to the study of the immune tumor microenvironment in brain metastasis while establishing close collaborations with labs leading cancer metastasis research across Europe." shared Rui Santalla Mendez of his award.
Prior to joining the Joyce Lab in August 2021, Rui Santalla Mendez undertook his MSc thesis in the lab of Pr Luke O’Neill at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland).
