The latest decisions of the Federal Council rule out the possibility of offering in person teaching to all students. Of the two options authorised by the Federal Ordinance, UNIL has chosen the use of the COVID certificate, as it allows more students to be present than the alternative of limiting classroom capacity to two-thirds. The modalities of the extension of the COVID certificate to Vaud higher education institutions will be detailed by the political authorities in the second half of this week. One of the scenarios on which the Rectorate of UNIL is working, and which is in line with its desire to guarantee the best possible teaching to all students, is the obligation for the universities to offer an alternative to in person teaching to students who will not be able to attend classes from next week. All courses must be able to be adapted to this eventuality. The Rectorate would like to thank all the teachers for their efforts to prepare to this last minute constraint. This newsletter is intended to help them do so.
Generalization of the recording process
Teachers are invited to prepare themselves to broadcast online and/or record their courses in order to guarantee the continuity of teaching for students who do not have a COVID certificate.
In each faculty, a list of courses to be broadcast and/or recorded had already been established. The aim is now to extend this list to all courses. The aim here is to enable those who cannot attend courses in person to follow them remotely, live and/or recorded. Interaction with remote participants cannot be required in all cases; indeed, the experience of recent months shows that interacting simultaneously with a present and a remote audience is often difficult and requires an adaptation of the teaching that is not always possible within the timeframe imposed.
Recording and broadcasting can be done either via one of the 47 rooms equipped with the rec-UNIL system, or in the other classrooms via the ZOOM application available to UNIL teachers.
You will find all the information, guides and resources necessary for your preparation on this page, which has just been updated.
Three presentation sessions on the different recording systems are planned for Wednesday 15, Thursday 16 and Friday 17 September 2021. Visit the Teaching Support Centre training portal to register.
Information and support points at the start of the academic year
During the first two weeks of the academic year, from 21 September, "relay" students will be present at information stands in the Internef, Anthropole, Amphipôle and Géopolis buildings. They will be able to provide you with quick assistance in case of difficulties or "on-the-spot" questions related to the recording systems, the technical launch of your teaching or for guidance to the various UNIL services available. The different digital tools at your disposal and their use are presented on this page. We ask you to take note of them in advance so that the "relay" students can concentrate on the emergencies.
