The Swiss National Science Foundation supports crossborder research on FLASH radiotherapy to treat brain tumours in children.
A Swiss-Mexican research project has been selected by the SNSF for one of the four SPIRIT grants (Swiss Programme for International Research by Scientific Investigation Teams) awarded this year.
Pr Marie-Catherine Vozenin (Service of radiation oncology, Lausanne University Hospital and University of Lausanne) along with Dr Paola Ballesteros (Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía, Mexico) will lead this study* into the potential of FLASH radiotherapy to better the treatment of medulloblastoma in children.
The project blends knowledge exchange between countries and the benefit to developing nations, the hallmark of all SPIRIT projects, with the development of the emerging technology that is FLASH radiotherapy.
The three other 2021 SPIRIT awards will support collaborative research with Egypt, Thailand and Sri Lanka. Of the twelve researchers involved, six are women.
