Two or more fully-funded scholarships are awarded each year to enable graduates of Swiss universities to study for Master or Doctoral degrees in the University of Oxford as members of Lincoln College.
The Berrow Foundation Lord Florey Scholarships cover full College and University fees and College accommodation costs, and provide a generous living allowance, for candidates accepted to read for a graduate degree in medical, chemical or biochemical sciences at Oxford University as members of Lincoln College. Schofars also have access to a generous research fund to assist with the cost of travel to conferences. The awards may be held for up to three years.
The Scholarships are open to candidates who are nationals of, and domiciled in, either Switzerland or Liechtenstein and who are, or will be, graduates from any Swiss university, including the ETHZ and the EPFL. Candidates must not be more than five years beyond graduation from their first degree, except for candidates in medicine, for whom the five years limit dates from obtaining the Federal Diploma in medicine.
Prospective candidates should note that research which involves the use of human embryos or their creation, including by cloning, or the use of human embryonic stem cells will NOT be funded by this Foundation. Lincoln College fully respects the Foundation 's inability to fund such research. The College, however, welcomes applications from candidates interested in this or related areas of research, who are able to find financial support from other sources.
Applicants will be interested to note that Lord Florey's Nobel prize-winning work at Lincoln College on the development of penicillin has had great importance in Switzerland, as it led to the closure of many sanatoriums, especially in Davos and Leysin.
Further particulars, together with an application form, can be found on our website.
