Professor Garen Markarian joined the Department of Accounting and Control at HEC Lausanne (UNIL) on August 1, 2020, as a Full Professor.
A specialist in financial accounting, accounting theory, financial statement analysis, corporate finance, and private equity, Prof. Garen Markarian has gained valuable teaching experience in several business schools, such as WHU (Dusseldorf), IE Business School (Madrid), HEC (Paris), Bocconi (Milan), Concordia (Montréal), Rice University (Houston), and Case Western Reserve (Cleveland), where he obtained his Ph.D. in Management. Besides his academic activities, Prof. Markarian was a consultant for Standard & Poor’s “Society of Industry Leaders”. He has also held the position of First Regional Economic Officer for the United Nations (western Asia headquarters).
His research interests include corporate governance, executive compensation, insider trading, and valuation. The quality of his publications has earned him awards from prestigious associations, such as the American Finance Association and the American Accounting Association. His research work has also been mentioned in the Financial Times, Bloomberg, Washington Post, and CFO magazine.
