The fifteenth "Teach" newsletter is dedicated to the means that the CSE puts at your disposal for the preparation of your courses. The sanitary facilities planned for the beginning of the academic year in September 2020 will be detailed in a future newsletter, also intended for students and all UNIL staff. We can already affirm that the campus will be de-densified so that only one third of the students will attend simultaneously. This implies hybrid teaching, both face-to-face and distance learning, for most of the courses.
Preparing for the new academic year
The “Centre de soutien à l’enseignement” (CSE) offer of support was met with great success, with more than 380 registrations in webinars and online labs since its launch three weeks ago. Don't hesitate to call on it during the summer to help you prepare for the new academic year.
As a reminder :
Webinars and Lab-online
In order to support you in the preparation of your courses for next semester in Hy-Flex mode, the Centre de soutien à l’enseignement (CSE) has developed a training offer composed of 24 webinars (who will take place every day from Monday to Friday and will be given several times, duration 1h30) and 7 online Labs (duration 1h00) which will be run until September 25th, 2020. The list of these courses and their registration modalities are available here: https://conference.unil.ch/cours/cse. Some of these courses are given in English.
Pedagogical permanence and consultations
[For medical school teaching, the Medical Pedagogy Unit provides support for its teachers]
You also have the possibility of meeting a CSE pedagogical advisor to prepare your teaching for the start of the new academic year during the online pedagogical permanence via Zoom without appointment. These sessions will take place from Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 11.00 am. It is also possible to make an appointment with a pedagogical advisor for a pedagogical consultation on the Dorigny campus or via Zoom by contacting : elearning@unil.ch.
Production of multimedia resources
The CSE's Teaching multimedia support unit is at your disposal to assist you in the production of multimedia resources for the start of the new academic year: elearning@unil.ch
Launch of " R-E-C " - UNIL
From the beginning of the autumn semester of 2020, UNIL will put at your disposal a support system for the capture, recording and rebroadcasting of your courses, called R-E-C, based on three main infrastructures:
1. An infrastructure of webcasting and recording
This infrastructure is based on the UbiCast solution that we used during the last few months and which now sits on our institution's computer servers. It allows you to produce your teaching multimedia content either from your computer or directly online via the studio application.
Capturing and recording of courses will now be available in the following classrooms :
- Group 1: Teacher capture, visual support, sound, plus three additional sources available.
(ANT 1031 - MAX 350 - MAX 351 - NEF 263 - NEF 273 - POL A - POL B - POL C - POL D - GEO 1612 - SYN 1216 - Amphi Bugnon - Amphi CHUV Maternity)
- Group 2: Capturing presentation material and sound from the room (podcast)
(GEO 1612 - GEO 1620 - GEO 1628 - GEO 2113 - GEO 2114 - GEO 2121 - GEO 2122 - GEO 2129 - GEO 2130 - GEO 2137 - GEO 2138 - GEO 2144 - GEO 2145 - GEO 2153 - GEO 2207 - GEO 2208 - GEO 2219 - GEO 2224 - GEO 2227 - GEO 2230 - GEO 2235 - GEO 2238 - GEO 2879 - ANT 1129)
- Group 3: Mobile recording of presentation and sound from the room (podcast)
Teachers working in all other rooms that require recording will be able to request the loan of Logitech Connect microphones or towers in order to record and broadcast their classes.
2. Three recording studios on campus
In addition to these classrooms and the online studio, three recording studios will be available from the start of the academic year for all teachers who wish to pre-record content. These studios are equipped with solutions that allow all users to work autonomously. Two studios will be available in rooms 177 and 179 of the Amphipôle and another in a room at Le Bugnon which has yet to be identified.
3. A broadcasting infrastructure as of August 24th, 2020
All course recordings can be broadcast live or made available for deferred broadcasting on the teacher's channel from his or her Moodle course space or directly on the http://rec.unil.ch page (available by August 24th at the latest).
All of this support system is being installed and will be operational by August 24th. More information, guides and tutorials will also be available at the same time.
Extended COURSERA access
Access to the MOOC COURSERA catalogue is extended until September 30th, 2020. As a reminder, you can give your students access to this service by sending a list containing their name, first name and e-mail address to elearning@unil.ch.
