We are happy to share with you the third newsletter "Teach". It starts with a new video message from our Rector Nouria Hernandez. This is followed by an update on the digital tools made available in the last few weeks and some figures illustrating their widespread use, new solutions for distance learning and new tutorials to share with your students.

A dynamic that persists and grows
Last week continued on the growing trends of the first days and we saw the same dynamic in the use of the digital solutions made available to our community. At the level of our UNIL media server, more than 650 new videos were added to all those produced the previous week, bringing to more than 1400 the number of videos made available to our students since the beginning of this current situation. Moodle's usage statistics, already very important in normal times, have doubled in terms of pages and tools loaded and we have gone from 7,000 to nearly 10,000 daily users. As of this week, over 1700 Moodle spaces are available to our students. For Webex, we are at more than 1700 meetings organized and attended by more than 16,000 students.
We haven't encountered any significant technical problems with all the proposed solutions except for a few episodic slowdowns on Webex between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm.
New complementary solutions available this week
- ZOOM
Later this week, we will implement a ZOOM solution for teachers and students to complement the Webex solution already made available. We have decided to double the technical solutions for webinars so that teachers can choose the solution that best suits their needs and can refer to an alternative in case of a problem with one of the two solutions. Information related to the access conditions and the different tutorials will be shared via the "Teach" page of the UNIL coronavirus website.
- CAMTASIA
For teachers with specific needs for local screen recording, we have purchased a number of CAMTASIA software licenses. Teachers who wish to purchase a license can request one via elearning@unil.ch.
A solution is in sight for virtual access to computers in computer rooms
A solution is being tested for the remote availability of computers in computer rooms for TP/ Practival Work and other teacher needs. This solution consists of a virtualization portal that will allow the students concerned to connect, via a browser, to the physical computer in the classroom. This solution is simple, elegant, 'easy' to implement and gives access to all the software present on the computers in the classrooms. If you wish to test this solution, you can contact hamid.hussain-khan@unil.ch. Please note that the test is underway for the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.
