The survey, conducted between April 9 and May 9 2019 among FGSE researchers gathered 51 responses. In particular, it made it possible to update the research support website. It has notably helped to update the research support website.
Thank you for your participation to the survey! Your replies have shed light on your research support needs. In return, we communicate here a synthesis of the survey and the launching of the new FGSE Researchers web page.
The survey revealed a need for clarification of the contact personsfor each need. We have now identified the contacts in FGSE and UNIL on the FGSE Researchers web page. This page also contains important information about :
The following themes also raised questions and requests :
Research funding
The survey shows a strong need for funding support (research projects, workshops, publications, etc.). The Dicastère Research and the FGSE Research Consultant are here to help you identify funding opportunities, review an application or any other question. UNIL's research support website (for all and for doctoral and post-doctoral students) can also guide you.
The main external funder for the FGSE is the SNSF (see slide 4), sometimes linked to type I of the FINV; other sources exist and are used : European funds, industry, foundations...
Publications and OA (Open Access)
A quick analysis of our publications highlights the main intra- and interfaculty collaborations of the FGSE (cf. slides 10-11). However, this information is probably not exhaustive given that not all publications have been input to Serval.
The new Open Access requirements raise questions about funding, as well as practical questions and requests for clarification of new concepts. The OA requirements can be solved by self-archiving an author version of your publications on Serval. This deposit is made after the embargo period traditionally requested by the publisher or after a reduced embargo negotiated with the publisher (see template for negotiation letter proposed by UNIL). Some funders require that the embargo period on publications not exceed a certain time limit (see Open access policies). Generally speaking, the UNIL OA pages provide very useful information.
Tips for the quick upload of your publications into Serval
Data management
The needs expressed in the survey show the full value of the new storageservice open at UNIL, in line with the requirements of SNSF and European funds.
Storage is the backup during a project of the research data (question 3.1 of the SNSF DMP).
For the long-term archiving of data at the end of a research project (question 3.2 of the SNSF DMP), an external repository must be used.
Some archiving tips
Apart from the commonly used repositories FORS (social sciences) and ZENODO (generic), you can find a specialized repository on the re3data.org platform.
The responses to the questionnaire provided further valuable detailed information to refine the support provided by the Dicastère Research. If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to contact the Dicastère Recherche: Amélie Dreiss ou Rémy Freymond.
