An earthquake shakes the Lake Geneva area!
Today (May 28th, 2019) morning at 10:48 an earthquake occurred beneath the Dent d'Oche, the peak that is clearly visible from Lausanne just across the lake.
According to the Swiss Seismological Service the earthquake magnitude was 4.2, and the focal depth was shallow (2 km). Several people at UNIL have felt mild shaking and undulation in the Géopolis building. An educational seismology project run by G. Hetényi and S. Subedi at ISTE operates a seismometer in the Valais, which has recorded this very clear waveform after the earthquake.
