Valérie Chavez, Professor in the Department of Operations at HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne, has been elected to membership of the European Regional Committee of the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability.
The Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability is a section of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), one of the oldest scientific associations in the modern world. Its objectives are the advancement of the sciences of probability (including stochastic processes), mathematical statistics and their applications to all those aspects of human endeavour that are directed towards the increase of natural knowledge and the welfare of humanity.
The Bernoulli Society also sponsors a number of high-level scientific publications and organises or supports international meetings, which are both relevant and well established in the fields of mathematical statistics, probability, stochastic processes and their applications.
As Prof. Valérie Chavez explains, the role of members of the Bernoulli Society is to approve suggestions for the chair of the committee. “Members can also join the conference committees for events such as the European Meeting of Statisticians and the European Young Statisticians Meetings, which are organised under the responsibility of the European Regional Committee.”
Professor Chavez – who heads up the Master’s in Management at HEC Lausanne – was also recently appointed Associate Editor of the journal REVSTAT – Statistical Journal. The School congratulates her on both appointments!
