Filippo Cavallari, who was awarded a PhD in Information Systems by HEC Lausanne (UNIL) in 2018, has recently been given the Paul Bernays Award. This is the fourth time in eight years that one of the School’s recent PhD graduates has won the award, demonstrating the excellence of its research in the field.
Four HEC Lausanne researchers in turn given the Bernays Award
Dr Alessandro Facchini, Dr Raphaël Carroy and Dr Yann Péquignot all won the Paul Bernays Award – in turn – in 2011, 2014 and 2015. They share the fact that they all completed their PhD under the supervision of Prof. Jacques Duparc (HEC Lausanne), as did Filippo Cavallari, whose thesis was supervised jointly by Prof. Luca Motto Ros (Department of Mathematics, University of Turin).
Dr Filippo Cavallari’s research
The paper published by Dr Filippo Cavallari that won the Paul Bernays Award was the one he presented as his PhD thesis: "Regular tree languages in the first two levels of the Borel hierarchy", with his viva taking place in Turin, on June 7, 2018. The award is aimed primarily at young researchers whose work represents an exceptional contribution to the field of logic and the philosophy of science.
HEC Lausanne and the Department of Information Systems congratulate Dr Filippo Cavallari!
