Marianne Schmid Mast, Professor of Organizational Behavior at HEC Lausanne (UNIL) has been appointed a Fellow by the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) and a Division 8 Fellow by the American Psychological Association (APA). The SPSP and APA are international professional associations, whose main role is to promote psychological science in both research and teaching so as to improve human well-being.
The Society for Personality and Social Psychology is the world’s largest organization of social and personality psychologists. SPSP strives to advance the science, teaching, and application of social and personality psychology. APA is the leading scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States. APA’s mission is to advance the creation, communication and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives.
Prof. Marianne Schmid Mast has been appointed a Division 8 Fellow for her extraordinary, distinctive and longstanding contributions to the science of personality and social psychology. She is extremely pleased by the announcement and hopes that her new honorific title of Fellow will help increase the international recognition of the Department of Organizational Behavior, HEC Lausanne and the University of Lausanne.
Prof. Schmid Mast’s research addresses how individuals in power hierarchies interact, perceive, and communicate (verbally and nonverbally), how first impressions affect interpersonal interactions and evaluations, how people form accurate impressions of others, and how physician communication affects patient outcomes. She uses immersive virtual environment technology to investigate interpersonal behavior and communication as well as computer-based automatic sensing to analyze nonverbal behavior in social interactions. She is currently an Associate Editor of the Journal of Nonverbal Behavior and sits on the Editorial Board of the journal Leadership Quarterly.
