Arian Cani, who finished his PhD in Actuarial Science at HEC Lausanne (UNIL) this year, enjoyed a fine end to his studies. This spring, he was given the “First Prize 2018” by the global reinsurance group SCOR, for the quality of his thesis, entitled “Reinsurance and dividend problems in insurance”.
The SCOR Group awards this prestigious prize every year to the best actuarial science students in different countries, for the excellence of their research, ideas and innovative projects in this field.
Arian Cani impressed the judges for the Switzerland, Germany and Austria region, with his thesis written at HEC Lausanne under the supervision of Prof. Hansjoerg Albrecher. In his work, Arian develops several new models for dividend payout streams and reinsurance strategies and solves the resulting intricate mathematical problems, leading to new results and insights, both on the applied and the theoretical level.
HEC Lausanne and the Department of Actuarial Science congratulate Arian Cani, who received his prize in a ceremony in Berlin in June, at the International Congress of Actuaries, which is the largest conference in actuarial science worldwide and takes place every four years.
