HEC Lausanne team wins the world final of the CFA Institute Research Challenge
A great first for HEC Lausanne and Switzerland! The team of students from the Master’s in Finance at HEC Lausanne (University of Lausanne) won the world final of the highly prestigious CFA Institute Research Challenge last Friday (23 April) at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This excellent news hit the headlines of the Swiss French (Le Temps) and German (Finanz und Wirtschaft) economic press, while the participants concerned and their professor, Norman Schurhöff, came in for much praise. The Dean’s Office extended its warmest congratulations to them!
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a global financial analysis competition which promotes the emergence of new talent. It brings together students in finance from universities on every continent and is organized by the CFA Institute, a non-profit association of investment professionals which establishes standards of excellence in finance. Over the last nine years, the HEC Lausanne team has won the national competition on six occasions.
As soon as the victory was announced last Friday, the HEC Lausanne team was immediately named “World financial analysis champion” by the newspaper Le Temps, the leading economic and financial press media in French-speaking Switzerland. For his part Christian Dreyer, CEO of the CFA Society (Switzerland), congratulated them and stressed the fact that the team had “fully merited” this success, adding “we are proud that the Lausanne team has won for the very first time”.
Supervised by professor Norman Schürhoff, the HEC Lausanne team is made up of five students on the Master’s in Finance course: Natalia Grudina, Jonathan Pavillard, Mark Temnikov, Sam Wagner and Jeroen Zandbergen. Thanks to this victory – the first since the faculty has been taking part in the competition – Switzerland won the world title for the first time. An impressive performance since it also demonstrates all the talent, knowledge and expertise of the students taking the Master’s in Finance course at HEC Lausanne!
