The HEC Lausanne Sailing Team, from the Faculty of HEC (University of Lausanne), won first place in the Grand Surprise Trophy on Sunday. Our congratulations to the whole team who sailed under their faculty’s flag in French waters, off La Trinité sur Mer.
The Grand Surprise Trophy is a new sporting challenge, organized by ISEP Voile (the sailing team of the School of Digital Engineers in Paris) and ESSEC Voile (the sailing team of the ESSEC business school, also in Paris), in conjunction with Team Winds (an events company specializing in boat hire).
Following a training day on Saturday, the HEC Lausanne Sailing Team faced no fewer than 12 student crews, who came to take part in the Trophy on Sunday. With ideal meteorological conditions for an early spring day, the team beat all the other student crews to take first place on the podium.
Skipper Titouan Briaux commented, "What’s nice about Brittany, is that the weather always allows you to sail. It was a long way to go for a weekend, but it was worth it". He added, "The Grand Surprise is a versatile boat that’s both technical and easy to access. The regattas are always very interesting because we all compete on equal terms".
Thanks to this first win, the HEC Lausanne Sailing Team crew is keen to tackle some new challenges: "Meeting other student teams was useful from a competitive perspective but also a human point of view, as we’ll be coming together again for the EDHEC Sailing Cup competition in late April".
The Spi Ouest-France event is also just over the horizon, running over the Easter weekend from March 29 to April 2, 2018. We wish our sailors in Brittany a fair wind for these next two competitions!
