Suzanne de Treville, professor in the Department of Operations in the Faculty of Business and Economics (UNIL) has been appointed co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Operations Management, one of the world’s most prestigious academic journals in the discipline. Previously Department Editor and Associate Editor, she took up her new role, working alongside Tyson Browning, on January 1, 2018.
A professor and researcher at HEC Lausanne, Suzanne de Treville is a leading figure in the world of supply chains. She has a particular interest in questions of production and offshoring, and through her research, explores new approaches and decision-making tools that sometimes challenge accepted practice. Using the CDF (Cost Differential Frontier calculator) software that she and her team developed at HEC Lausanne, for example, she has shown that local production can often be more profitable than offshoring.
Suzanne is keen to identify and highlight factors of this kind, which can have a dramatic impact on ways of thinking, decision-making and strategy development. It is this that has now prompted her to take up her new role as co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Operations Management. She is particularly appreciative of the editorial line taken by the journal, which has a strong international reputation, namely its focus on innovative, empirical topics.
Suzanne is deeply honored by the appointment but also sees it as an exceptional opportunity to drive progress in operations management. “Over the years, the Journal of Operations Management has been the strongest publication for furthering the development of the discipline. I am proud and delighted to be able to play an active role in developing the journal as co-editor-in-chief,” she comments.
Her initial contact with the JOM dates back to 1986, when it published her first article. She joined its editorial team in 2012, first as Associate Editor, then Department Editor and now co-editor-in-chief.
