Department members Professor Jean-Philippe Bonardi and PhD student Dimitrija Kalanoski won two years of funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) for their research project "Towards a better understanding of competitive intensity and inter-firm rivalry: a study of mergers, acquisitions and joint-ventures in Europe." .
The purpose of the project "Towards a better understanding of competitive intensity and inter-firm rivalry: a study of mergers, acquisitions and joint-ventures in Europe" is to understand whether and how strategic moves impact competitive intensity in the markets. The aim is to better understand the interplay between competitive intensity and firms' strategic behavior by focusing on individual firm actions and inter-firm strategic moves like M&As and joint-ventures. The project, through a large empirical sample, will explore how some inter-firm strategic moves and individual competitive actions jointly affect the competitive intensity on the market, either by strengthening the rivalry among firms in a market or by weakening it.
