Markus Christen joined the Department of Marketing (DMK) at HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne on August 1st, 2017, as Full Professor.
Markus Christen holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, an MBA from the University of Oregon in Eugene and a Master in mechanical and industrial engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH).
Prior to joining HEC Lausanne, Markus Christen was a member of the marketing faculty of INSEAD (in Fontainebleau, France and in Singapore) and he worked in industry for several years as a production engineer, consultant and marketing manager. He has also taught at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Markus Christen’s research interests include the value of information for marketing decisions and the implication for the competitive marketing and pricing strategies of information vendors as well as the impact of innovation strategies on firm performance. A particular interest is the challenges firms face when shifting their innovation strategy from products to services and solutions.
His work has appeared among others in Management Science, Marketing Science, the Journal of Marketing Research, Quantitative Marketing and Economics, the Harvard Business Review and the Financial Times. He has also written several widely used award-winning case studies. He is a member of the American Marketing Association, the European Marketing Academy, and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
